By the end of 2021, Riot Games plans on implementing new ways for players to express themselves.
Players have long been limited in the ways they are able to express themselves. Player icons have been the longest standing customizable feature. Riot has expanded player customization in recent years, adding a plethora of new emotes, and even adding ‘Little Legends’ to ARAMs. Riot Games plans on overhauling their current system however, adding more features by the end of 2021.
The League of Legends Dev Team official Twitter account release some of the details early today. Their preview image included changes to the general UI as well as customizable options. Player icons have changed positions and have been accompanied by new borders. Along with this, options such as role and party have been condensed and physically moved.
The new changes are meant to minimize ‘noise’ in the UI while adding new identification features. Riot Games has stated that they still intend to focus on core features “like ranked emblems, level, name, and icons” while improving the general client experience. Ranked emblems are also set to receive an update as well. The classic helmet ranked icons may be on their way out, however titles and ‘Identity Crystals’ will be making their way in.
