Things we learned from the new Pokémon Legends: Arceus trailer

Noble Pokémon offer a big challenge

Many people were scared that the newly introduced Noble Pokémon would not offer much of a challenge. The new gameplay video throws that out of the window however, showing how a battle against a Noble Pokémon actually works, which includes multiple steps throughout the battle, involving actual Pokémon battle as well as calming it down. There’s a whole lot of interesting stuff that can be done with the mechanic and we’re interested to see what the other Noble Pokémon will bring.

Capturing mechanics

Capturing Pokémon works differently in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Players can sneak up on Pokémon to launch their Pokéballs, offering a free chance of capture. Otherwise they can (or have to) opt for a battle, lowering HP in the more traditional sense. It’s a deviation from the formula, but it’s certainly a welcome one, making it a bit more exciting and thrilling to capture a wild Pokémon.

New approach to battles

While Pokémon won’t shy away from turn-based battle, Legends Arceus introduces some new elements with the Strong Style and Agile Style moves, which vary in power and speed, allowing you to offer up strength for speed or vice versa. Especially with the new Alpha Pokémon that are introduced, it should offer a new layer of strategy in the game.

Missions and customizations

Like a more traditional RPG, Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces missions to the game. Players will have to carry out certain tasks, such as capture a big Buizel (highlighting size difference) in exchange for rewards, such as crafting materials, which in turn can be used for Pokéballs and healing items. Finally the game also shows its elements of customization, allowing you to change hairstyles and unlock alternate outfits for your character.
