Patch 11.18 Preview – The first Worlds patch

Patch 11.18 will see sweeping changes across the standing meta. Many steady, mainstay picks throughout the season may shift around in priority. With 31 champions facing either buffs or nerfs, this is a strong start to the Worlds season. More patches and hotfixes are likely abound as we near the most critical point of the competitive season.

A massive botlane change-up

The botlane seems the most likely to be displaced with these sets of nerfs. Aphelios, Varus, Ashe, and Kalista are all ADCs that have seen consistent play both professionally and in soloqueue, however are lined up to be hit with nerfs. Alongside this, Trundle support seems to also be bound to see changes. The popular support pick is often used as an anti-engage tool against the likes of Leona and Tristana, though Trundle’s days in the bottom lane may be numbered.

With Thresh also looking down nerfs, the bottom the lane may be in a chaotic state before the start of Worlds 2021. The ability for botlanes to adapt to these massive changes may be the biggest deciding factor in the biggest tournament of the year.

What Champions may make an appearance at Worlds?

While nerfs have massively targeted the bottom lane, several buffs may revitalize some picks. The jungle specifically may see old picks returning, as Qiyana, Lilia, Zed, and Talon are all seeing buffs in the role.

Other solo laners such as Dr.Mundo, Urgot, Karma, Zoe, and even the likes of Singed and Fizz could see play at Worlds 2021. While more patches are set to be released before the start of Worlds, these are early signs of a developing Worlds meta.
