Epic Games to hand out V-bucks in loot box lawsuit settlement

Epic Games wants to settle a lawsuit regarding randomized loot boxes (Llamas) by awarding players who purchased said boxes with 1000 V-Bucks.

Epic Games is involved in a lawsuit regarding randomized loot boxes which were featured in Save the World up until 2019, when they changed up the formula. Epic talks about it in a blog post. “While some of you enjoyed purchasing random item Loot Llamas and being surprised by the content unlocked, others were disappointed. So we decided a better experience for players was to be upfront and outline the details of in-game purchases – through the Item Shop and with new “X-Ray” Llamas.”

According to the lawsuit, Epic Games misrepresented the value these in-game items provided. Epic Games wants to settle the lawsuit, as approval for the settlement is currently pending. The settlement sees Epic Games credit 1000 V-bucks to anyone who has purchased a Loot Llama (with the system that was in place prior to the change in 2019), with the offer extending even outside of the US.

The same offer is extended to Rocket League players who purchased an event crate or key in the past. Rocket League saw a change to its crate system, which was random, as well, opting instead for blueprints which players could purchase to ensure that they were receiving the item they wanted. According to Epic Games, this process of receiving the V-Bucks and Rocket League credits will be done automatically. “There’s no action needed on your part, and you should receive your Credits within the next few days.”
