Battlefield 2042 – Release date & what we know so far

It’s looking like a return to form for Battlefield as they announced Battlefield 2042 with a brand new trailer. Let’s take a look at when it releases and what we already know.
When can we play it?

According to EA, we can expect to play Battlefield 2042 on October 22. This means the game will be available on that date for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and of course on PC.

What’s it about?

This time around Battlefield will be exploring the future, looking at warfare in a world where a lot of the natural resources such as water have been depleted, leading to a global refugee crisis. Within the game you’ll be playing out the war that’s raging between the United States and Russia. Oskar Gabrielson, the GM of Dice, said that the multiplayer will be a sandbox with intense combat and a lot of unexpected events.

What to expect?

First and foremost, you won’t be playing a single player as the game focuses on multiplayer. Within that multiplayer we find Conquest, where you capture strongholds on a map, and Breakthrough featuring attackers and defenders. We’ll also be getting a new type of game mode revealed to us in the EA Play event next month. DICE also went on to confirm that there are currently no plans for a Battle Royale version and that you can expect up to 128 players on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X or S. Other consoles feature up to 64.
