Valve updates Dota Pro Circuit ruleset for 2021/2022

While we still do not have official announcements on the schedule of the upcoming season Valve has quietly updated their ruleset on the official Dota 2 esports website.

Here are the most prominent changes compared to the past season:

Three “Tours” instead of Two

First change that immediately stands out is the addition of another “Tour” to the Dota Pro Circuit. Instead of the two Major season, this year we will have three interregional competitions with regional leagues leading into them. The scaling will also be change as the Tours closer to The International will earn teams more points to reward recent form a bit more in contrast to the past season.

More DPC Points awarded at Majors

Another change sees more qualifying points awarded at Majors instead of the regional leagues. Points distributed in the leagues will be a split sum of 690/920/1150, while Majors will be 1900/2700/3500.

Hopefully this should alleviate situations in which teams that fail to earn international success can qualify only through league play.

Roster Locks

While we are still in the midst of the ongoing post-TI shuffle, teams only have 10 more days until the initial roster lock happens. The deadline for transfers has been set to 11:59 am PT on November 21.

Each roster lock will remain in place until the conclusion of the regional leagues in each tour, teams will be able to change their lineups afterwards. The player removal deadline will be on the Tuesday after the Major, while players can still be added until the Sunday after the Major.

The point deduction for player changes remains in place. Teams will lose 15% of their DPC Points at the time of removal should they decide to make changes. If they swap players after qualifying to a Major, they will be deducted an additional 20% penalty.

DPC Slot Ownership

Valve has also clarified the rules surrounding the ownership of the DPC slot throughout the season. They confirmed that the owner of the DPC slot is the admin, who originally created the roster, regardless of it being a player, manager or third-party holder. There are no restrictions on transfering that ownership, which means that teams can still be acquired during the season.

Will there be Open Qualifiers for TI11?

Like the past season there will not be open qualfiers just for The International. The regional qualifiers for the third DPC tour will effectively serve as qualifiers for TI11 as any team that participates in the third DPC tour will be invited to the regional qualifiers.

Some details are not yet announced, but we are most likely getting them soon.
