VALORANT Champions Tour is returning to Iceland in 2022

It’s official, the VALORANT Champions Tour is returning to Iceland! In what has quickly become a match made in heaven, Riot Games announced the first Masters event of 2022 will be held in Reykjavik.

The announcement was first made on the Weibo account of VALORANT esports yesterday.

The original announcement was made in Mandarin, but thanks to the power of the internet, that was quickly translated into English. VCT Masters 1 will run from April 10th until the 24th.

Bringing VALORANT events to live audiences in 2022 is a top priority for esports. However, Iceland remains an ideal location to host international offline competitions until it is safe to host an event that will keep fans engaged.

The Covid pandemic has propelled Iceland as the go-to country for Riot Games, as too many countries still have restrictions that won’t allow for the full live experience.

It is precisely because of our deep relationship and strong connection with Iceland that all qualifying teams are given the best guarantee of participation. In addition, Iceland’s time zone makes it easy to schedule matches for online viewers on different continents.

The grand finals of VCT Masters 2021 was between Sentinels and Fnatic.

Reykjavik was the home for the 2021 Masters 2 tournament, the first-ever offline VCT event. Masters 1 was held online due to the pandemic, but Iceland will forever be remembered as the first country to host a VCT Masters event.

Now they’re opening the offline VCT season once again.

Another reason Riot Games gave for the return to the Viking Island is that the time zone Iceland is in is ideal for the viewership base for multiple continents.
