Team Liquid will look for their fifth title after a heart pounding series versus 100 Thieves

Team Liquid have consistently been one of the best teams in the post-franchising era. With the exception of 2020, Team Liquid have now attended almost every finals since their complete rebuild in 2018. While last year the squad may have fallen short, the entire team seems reinvigorated and ready to take back their thrones. 100 Thieves had a strong showing but ultimately fell flat at the final hurdle.

TL vs 100T – A battle of perseverance

From the start, this series was a test of wills for both teams. Games one and two were landslide victories for both sides, but game three was where we saw just how evenly matched the two were. Team Liquid managed to accumulate a 12K gold lead, though 100 Thieves scaling composition cut that down in the late game. Can “Closer” Celik continued to show just how threatening Viego can be in volatile team fights.

Taken within one game of defeat, Team Liquid quickly recovered. TL pulled off a substantial comeback of their own, largely thanks to the signature Camille of Barney “Alphari” Morris, and took the series to a climatic game five. Once again, Alphari put Team Liquid on his back, but this time on Jayce to close out a tense game five. Team Liquid now advance on to their second LCS finals of 2021.

Will 100 Thieves meet Team Liquid again?

By the end of the regular season, 100 Thieves had raised concerns among fans that they had ‘fallen off’ as a top four team. Similar to Team Liquid, the squad struggled against other top teams and even subbed out their starting roster for the last game of the season.

100 Thieves proved today just how well equipped they are in a Bo5. 100 Thieves not only mentally recovered between games to turn the tide of the series, but also overcame one of the largest gold deficits of the post-season. 100 Thieves have now fallen to the lower bracket, bound to face the winner of the TSM and Cloud9 match-up. Though qualified for Worlds already, 100 Thieves risk their seeding with a loss in their next series. Facing elimination or possibly their second ever LCS finals, 100 Thieves are sure to put up a fight.
