Rainbow Six Invitational to proceed as LAN

Despite the ongoing pandemic Ubisoft has announced that the upcoming Six Invitational will be held on LAN. The biggest Rainbow Six tournament of each year will be held once again in late February.

As the world struggles with COVID-19 most esports tournaments have been indefinitely postponed, cancelled or moved to an online format. Ubisoft officially announced that the highlight of the Rainbow Six Season, the Six Invitational, will still take place as LAN tournament.

The tournament is most likely going to follow a similar structure as Riot’s Worlds 2020 and secure a “bubble” for the players and staff to compete safely. Owing to these health and security reasons the Six Invitational will be hosted without a live audience.

World Cup delayed to 2022

Ubisoft also touched on their other scheduled competitions and their current status. With the exception of the Brazilian Division’s Grand Final all Regional Finals will be held online due to the pandemic. The World Cup that was announced in September will be postponed to 2022 as the large number of participating countries and their various measures against the pandemic has made planning the event not feasible in the near future.

More Rainbow Six:

The selection process for the World Cup will subsequently resume in 2021. Ubisoft also touched on the upcoming May and August Majors in 2021. The developer is currently exploring all options for those Majors and will keep the fans updated in 2021 once more information is available.

While the postponement of the World Cup is unfortunate, Rainbow Six fans can at least take solace in the fact that the Six Invitational will be played out on the big stage, even if the cheering crowds will be absent.
