Misfits still on top going into LEC week 3 – Vitality defeat G2

Misfits are still on top going into week 3 of the LEC, but can anyone stop them?

Few could have predicted the current state of the LEC standings. While teams such as Rogue and MAD Lions have maintained their mostly positive performances, Misfits have emerged as an early dark horse. At the same time, Vitality may finally be unlocking their potential. After two weeks of middling results, the almost entirely new roster took down the giants in G2.

Misfits remain in first place at 5-1.

Misfits have taken only relatively few ‘top teams’ in the LEC, but have more than proven their worth against the pack. Misfits continued this trend by claiming a dominant win over Excel. Claiming 100% of neutral objectives, first blood, and dropping zero towers, this may have been Misfit’s cleanest game yet. Shin “HiRit” Tae-min particularly had a standout performance on his increasingly signature Gwen pick.

With 539 DPM and the highest GD@15, HiRit’s consistent toplane presence has been a massive asset to Misfits throughout the year. The entire squad seems to be clicking however, as inconsistent performers from Spring have largely found their footing. Misfits will get another chance to prove themselves against a ‘mid-tier’ team tomorrow in Schalke 04.

Can Vitality perform when it counts?

Team Vitality by far had the most active offseason in the LEC. Almost entirely revamping their roster during the relatively short break, many had high expectations for the French organization. Their starting 3-2 record did not exactly capture the high hopes many had placed on the young team. Today, Vitality were able to show their strength by defeating G2.

In a 28-minute win, Vitality claimed their most significant victory of the season yet. Still only equalized at 3-3, Vitality will need to recreate this performance against the reigning champions, MAD Lions, tomorrow to get above the .500 line.
