How to move efficiently in Call of Duty: Warzone

Controls in Call of Duty: Warzone are simple and standard enough. But in order to effectively move so you gain an advantage over others it takes more than that. Our movement guide focuses on controller players (mainly PS4-controller). Make sure to adjust our advice to your preferred input method.

Let’s start of with the basics: What is all part of movement in Call of Duty: Warzone? Walking, standing, sprinting, ducking, jumping, sliding, climbing, lying down, jumping with a parachute and driving a vehicle.

Sprinting and its variations

We will focus on movement on foot for this guide. Moving across the map is easy enough, but with different combinations and using varied sprinting techniques you can gain an advantage. If you hold down L3 while walking, you will start sprinting and move much faster. It also makes you harder to hit of course.

The downside of sprinting is obviously being unarmed in that period as well as being very loud and audible to your opponents. So make sure to hide your own position while listening for sprinting opponents. Make sure to also get the Dead Silence perk to prevent being found.
In order to shoot you need to stop sprinting unless you use the tactical sprint or the slide cancel for movement.

Tactical sprint is faster than the normal sprint and a better movement over short periods. You need to double-tap L3 to activate tactical sprint. You can discern if a character is using sprint or tactical sprint by looking at how the character carries the weapon. If it is overhead it is tactical sprint, which means that it will take longer to ready up the gun for a fight. The tactical sprint also has a long cooldown, so make sure to not waste it and end your sprint behind cover.

To get the most used out of it you should slide at the end of your sprint. Just hold down the circle button during sprints. You will acclerate and then slide in the direction you were facing. You can use slides to be more unpredictable and escape difficult encounters.

Slide Cancel improves tactical sprints by a lot

Strong Warzone players will always use Slide Cancel during their tactical sprints. Slide Cancels combine the different movements patterns of running, standing and sliding. Used correctly you not only move faster across the map, but also dodge enemy fire and end up combat-ready faster.

To perform a Slide Cancel you need to springt forwards. The slightly tap the slide button to get into sliding. During the slide you press the circle button to interrupt it. Then hit the cross button immediately to stand upright and keep moving as soon as possible.

You can repeat the very same combination of buttons indefinitely to get a large advantage in speed, while also being harder to hit during Slide Cancel. It also allows you to ready your weapon faster than the normal sprint.

Automatic tactical sprint is optional

You can also make the game change between sprint and tactical sprint automatically. Many players use that function to circumvent the need to doubletap.
The automatic function has its up- and downsides. Especially aggressive players benefit from Slide Cancels with automatic tactical springt to move faster and rack up kills. But a slow walk or a sneaky playstyle become impossible with automatic tactical sprint enabled. In the end it boils down to your own preference if you use manual or automatic.

Crouching und Snaking

While standing use the circle button to crouch down. You can use crouches to hide behind walls and make yourself a smaller target. It also improves your aim, which makes crouching an important tool for the players.

Crouching also muffles the sounds your character makes, which might make it easier to surprise opponents. An advanved technique is Snaking, which translates into peeking out from a low wall. While you are crouched you are protected behind cover but you can still look over the wall if necessary. YouTuber “JoeWo” shows you how to do it:

Pressing the circle button rapidly and then using your left stick to move sideways your character will become much harder to hit. In addition to that you stil can gather plenty of useful info on your opponents.

Laying down is also a good tool to use. Holding down the circle button will cause your character to lie down on the ground. You are barely visible for enemies, move silently and have very little recoil. All these combine to make this stance the most used for snipers and campers in high areas with good vision. Make sure to not get surprised yourself though as you have very little mobility if found.
