Golden Guardians change up roster – move Niles and Newbie to academy, promote Solo and Chime

LCS team Golden Guardians is due for some changes to their LCS roster, as they make moves using their academy team.

Golden Guardians will be moving their support player Leandro “Newbie” Marcos and top laner Aiden “Niles” Tidwell to their academy team, while top laner Colin “Solo” Earnest and support Jonathan “Chime” Pompiono will make a move in the opposite direction, joining up with the main roster. They went on to announce the roster swap on their Twitter page.

Looking at the recent results Golden Guardians have had, it’s no surprise they might’ve been looking to change things up. They ended the LCS Spring Split in 10th (and last) place and despite the upside on players such as Niles and Newbie, their performance was often mediocre or not up to par. Golden Guardians will be looking towards Solo and Chime to do more of the heavy lifting within the team.

While Solo can easily be called an LCS veteran, playing for teams such as Echo Fox, Team Liquid and Clutch Gaming in the past, Chime is more of an upcoming talent. He joined up with the Golden Guardians in May of 2020 and will be looking to continue his impressive form he showed during the LCS Proving Grounds. It’ll be interesting to see if these two players were the missing pieces for Golden Guardians to get to winning ways.
