Doublelift criticizes Riot Games over NA servers, ping issues and the impact on the LCS

LCS Veteran and retired player Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng has criticized Riot Games over their League of Legends servers and the negative impact the situation has on the LCS.

In a short video on YouTube, Doublelift tackles the server issue that North America has been dealing with in League of Legends for a very long time. He talks about the ping issues the region faces due to there only being one NA server, which is currently located in Chicago, while almost all LCS teams are based in California. This leads to players having to play on ping upwards of 60, which seriously affects their performance and playstyle.

Doublelift then goes on to ask why League of Legends matchmaking doesn’t function similarly to what Riot Games does for VALORANT, working with location-based matchmaking. “Why can’t League of Legends have this system? What is holding them back from having this same system implemented in League.” Doublelift says. “Going from playing on TR (Tournament Realm) on 5 to 10 ping and then playing soloqueue on over 60 ping, it feels like playing two different games.”

Despite the ping being a glaring issue, Doublelift doesn’t think it’ll fix the entire NA region’s international problems, but he still sees it as a huge problem. A lot of professional (and casual) players agreed with Doublelift’s stance following the video, but as of yet Riot Games has not responded.
