Dota 2 – Aghanim’s Labyrinth has arrived

After multiple teasers recently, Valve has now revealed the new summer event for Dota 2. Aghanim’s Labyrinth is a brand new game mode for all players.

Aghanim’s Labyrinth is a new cooperative game mode for all players. In the roguelike mode players band together with three of their friends to challenge the various monsters lurking inside the labyrinth.

Choose your path

Challengers to the labyrinth will have to face a randomly generated dungeon each session, which should keep the experience fresh as you face off against the Horros Aghanim collected. Whenever players clear a room of the monsters within they must choose between several options to proceed. Not only can you pick the skills to unlock, you also choose your next opponent and decide which reward you want to aim for.

Besides those choices affecting your current run through the labyrinth, players also gather shards to unlock permanent bonuses called “blessings” for future attempts:

Compete on leaderboards

Once per week players will also be able to compete against each other on a specific labyrinth layout. The best players will be prominently displayed on global leaderboards. Besides the bragging rights for being the best challengers the highest performers will also unlock exclusive rewards and prizes for their skill.

While the new game mode can be played for free, Battle Pass owners have several bonuses. Not only can you level your Battle Pass through the new game mode, you can also unlock perks to make progressing through the labyrinth easier.

New hero to come?

Aghanim is a familiar name to Dota players as his trademark item “Aghanim’s Scepter” has been a staple item in the game, unlocking additional skills or upgrading existing ones for the heroes in the game. He has also always had lore tie-ins with other Heroes in the game, especially Rubick. With his model and voiceover featuring prominently in the new trailer for Aghanim’s Labyrinth the fans are already speculating him as the next hero to join the roster.

Traditionally new heroes were revealed during The International but with the status of TI 10 still up in the air, it is unclear when or if new heroes will be announced for Dota 2. But with the new trailer and game mode it seems more than likely that Aghanim, the Apex Mage, will be headed to Dota 2 soon.
