Chicago OpTic falls in their first Major series while the Thieves stay alive

The latest two teams to drop out are the London Royal Ravens and Florida Mutineers.

Day two of the Stage II Major was rife with upsets and surprise finishes in both the upper and lower brackets. With the top two teams, Atlanta FaZe and Minnesota Rokkr, still yet to play, the tournament so far has proven that no one is safe.

Empire starts with a sweep

The Stage I finalists weren’t exactly entering this tournament with momentum on their side, however a great postseason debut may have turned the tide for the squad. Game one, Hardpoint on Moscow, was by far the most competitive map of the series. Clayser’s impressive 1:27 time spent on the point garnered a lead for most of the map, however Shotzzy and Huke’s efforts cut into NYSL’s hopes of winning.

The following two maps were incredibly one sided. Empire swept NYSL on SnD 6-0 and followed with a quick 3-1 win on Control. NYSL’s lackluster start unfortunately failed to represent their top finish in their group, whilst Dallas’ hot start earned them a shot against Rokkr.

Toronto Ultra drop OpTic to lower bracket

Seemingly on the upswing after a shaky week 2 and 3, OpTic were stopped dead in their tracks as the Ultra defeated them 3-1. Another tight first game ultimately went in OpTic’s favor as Scump’s 31 total frags and 2:10 minutes on the point returned OpTic to their dominance on the game mode that they held in Stage I.

OpTic’s good news ended here unfortunately as Toronto came out on top in the next map, SnD on Moscow, in a similarly close fashion that ended 6-5 to equalize the series. Control on Raid was easily the quickest map of the series, Insight and Bance’s performance ending the third map 3-1. The final map, Hardpoint bookended the series similar to how it started though in the opposite direction as Toronto took the final win.

OpTic will now face off against Seattle Surge who knocked out Florida in a convincing manner. WIth no more room for error, OpTic will need a perfect lower bracket run to stay alive. Meanwhile, Ultra now has the tall task of taking on Stage I champions, Atlanta FaZe.

LA Thieves keep their lower bracket run alive

Certainly facing their share of criticism during the group stage, the LA Thieves have made the most of their lower bracket start by winning their second series against the London Royal Ravens.

TJHaly’s postseason buff seems to be in full effect as the roster swaps of Drazah and Venom seem to finally be paying off. The Thieves however will face their biggest challenge yet in NYSL, hungry to prove themselves after unceremoniously being knocked down by Dallas Empire.
