Bjergsen talks about his first split as coach; looks forward to 2021 LCS Summer Split

Being a rookie coach isn’t easy. Being a rookie coach when you’re Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg is an entirely different thing.

Bjergsen played seven seasons for TSM before transitioning in a coaching role. Considered as one of the best to ever play in the LCS, he had his work cut out for him once he retired as an active player.

TSM started the Spring Split with a line-up that had never played a game together. This showed at the start of the season when the team dropped its first two games.

“We really looked like a really bad team, to be frank,” Bjergsen said. “We looked like a bottom team and we were playing like a bottom team, which was stressful for my first split as a coach.”

Luckily for the coach, TSM went on a six-game winning streak after, closing out the 6 week Spring Split regular season on a very respectable 12-6 record, and a second-place finish after Cloud9.

The Mid-Season Showdown started off on a rough patch when Team Liquid, also 12-6 in the regular season, disposed of TSM in a 3-1 series, knocking the team down to the lower bracket.

There, TSM saw a resurgence and managed to send home Evil Geniuses and 100T 3-1, and thus making it to the loser’s finals where they would meet Team Liquid again.

Unfortunately for Bjergsen, no revenge was served, and TSM fell to Team Liquid a second time, again in a 3-1 series.

Bjergsen is watching MSI to see what the best teams in the world are doing, and what they are doing differently.

“There’s a lot to learn from watching the best teams from every region play against each other. Of course, the meta is going to change a bit. There’s going to be some changes from the MSI patch, but there are so many things in the game, and even as champions change, the way that the best teams view the game will always a lot to learn from,” he explained.

Fans will have the opportunity to see all the changes for TSM once the Summer Split kicks off on June 4th.
