Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire bound to meet again after quarterfinal wins

As the the CDL’s Major II nears its end, FaZe and Empire once again emerge as the top two while a tight contest in the lower bracket shakes out.

The second Major of the 2021 season has seen many similarities to the first as the Dallas Empire will get a third shot at defeating Atlanta FaZe in the postseason. Meanwhile, the bottom four in the loser has certainly seen change as the final four have been determined.

FaZe and Empire’s third bout imminent

Though able to upset Chicago OpTic, Toronto Ultra could not recreate this result against the undisputed top team in the CDL, Atlanta FaZe. Starting on Hardpoint in Moscow, Toronto seemed to have a promising start, accumulating a 100 point lead by 4:07 though ended the map losing 250-228.

Toronto marginally recovered by defeating FaZe 6-2, continuing FaZe’s worrying trend of slipping on SnD. FaZe resumed control by 3-0ing the Ultra on Control in Raid, Abezy taking control with 21 total kills in their victory. Bookending the series on Hardpoint, once again overpowering their opponents on Hardpoint. Cellium, one of FaZe’s typically quieter members, led objective time with 1:50 objective time in the series winning game.

LA Thieves surprise in the lower bracket

Taking their third series in the lower bracket by sweeping NYSL. Despite an incredibly underwhelming group stage, the LA Thieves are poised to move into the lower bracket semifinals with a win over Toronto Ultra.

The Thieves had firm control over all three games in the series, only trailing for a moment in Hardpoint on Checkmate. A mainstay roster member who managed to dodge the various swaps that occurred between Stage I and II, Kenny had an incredible series by dropping 30 kills in game and similarly top fragging in the final Control game.

With the LA Thieves on the upswing and the Toronto Ultra falling after a disastrous loss to FaZe, LA may enter this game with the mental edge.
