Apple won’t be reinstating Fortnite on the App Store until after the appeal process finishes

In the legal battle between Apple and Epic Games, Epic didn’t do all too well, only winning out on one (big) front. Now Apple has confirmed they don’t have any plans to give Epic Games back their Developer Account, which could mean we’re still years away from seeing Fortnite back in the App Store once more. Apple said they’ll be withholding the account until the appeal process is over and done with.

Apple took away the Developer Account of Epic Games after the developer implemented their own payment mechanism, which was a workaround for the mandated Apple payment system for in-app purchases. It was a retaliation by Apple for alleged breach of contract on the side of Epic Games. Epic Games tried to get the account back by filing an appeal, which was eventually denied, keeping Fortnite off the App Store.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney took to Twitter to talk about their most recent request to reinstate the app, which was denied by Apple. “Late last night, Apple informed Epic that Fortnite will be blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem until the exhaustion of all court appeals, which could be as long as a 5-year process.”
