Acend crowned the first VCT Champions after upsetting Gambit in five game series

VCT Champions crowned Acend as its first world champion after the squad defeated their EMEA counterpart in a five game thriller. An unlikely contender for the title, Acend made history not only by winning the event buy by upsetting Gambit. Dropping out relatively early in Masters Berlin only months ago, Acend now stands atop the VALORANT world.

In a tense series that went the full distance, Acend outlasted Gambit to end VCT Champions in the most dramatic fashion possible. Here is how Acend managed to take down the giants in Gambit, and become the first VALORANT Champions.

Acend defeats domestic rivals to win it all

Acend’s unexpected run for the crown saw the multi-national team top their group and upset Team Liquid on the path to finals. The team’s luck did not run out, as they managed to take down one last giant in Gambit.

The series remained contentious as after Gambit took the first map, Breeze (11-13), Acend shot back on Ascent (13-7). After a landslide on Fracture (13-3), led by nAts who found 26 kills and a 394 ACS, it certainly seemed like Gambit was sue to take the series.

Acend followed the most decisive game of the series with an OT win on Icebox (14-12) and the final on Split (13-8). Starxo finished as the series MVP, ending with 83 total frags, 132.4 ADR, and a combined 208 ACS. After a lengthy series, Acend weathered the storm to finally end VCT Champions and become VALORANT’s first world champion.
