38 people punished following League of Legends match-fixing investigation in LPL and LDL

Riot Games’ investigation into the LPL and LDL has concluded, with 38 people being punished of which 12 received lifetime bans.

The investigation into match-fixing in the LPL and LDL came about after FunPlus Phoenix jungler Zhou “Bo” Yang-Bo admitted to match-fixing while he was still active in the LDL, citing that he was forced to do it. The admission raised questions around match-fixing within the entire Chinese scene and Riot Games reacted by launching a full investigation into the issues.

Now that the results have come out, multiple people have been punished or banned. Jungler Bo would go on to get a ban of four months, as well as the support of ThunderTalk, Wang “Teeen” Yao-Ji. While the LPL remained relatively spared from match-fixing, the LDL suffered much worse, as the entire roster of Sheng Jie Gaming was found guilty and was thrown out of the LDL. Their top laner, Wang “Spunk” Zhi-Peng would even get a lifetime ban.

The results of the investigation will surely have an impact on the Chinese League of Legends scene as a whole and perhaps across the other regions as well. Jungler Bo already took to Chinese social media platform Weibo to issue an apology. ““I’m sorry. I’ve spent this past period of time regretting and suffering, and not knowing how I should face everyone. But one should never under any circumstances violate the rules.“
