We Play! Winter Madness – last Dota 2 event for 2018 arrives

In case you were worried that after the end of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Summit there wouldn’t be any other Dota 2 events until the end of the year, We Play! have a surprise for you.

We Play! recently hosted Mighty Triad: Strength, one of the first Artifact tournaments after the game’s release, and now will also organize the last Dota 2 event for 2018. The event will feature 14 teams and have a total prize pool of $100,000. Four of the teams get a direct invitation to the playoffs while the rest will have to go through qualifiers. Winter Madness starts December 27 and the group stage will last up until December 30. The groups will consist of five teams each and the bottom performer from each group will drop out. The playoffs will commence on January 2, marking the start of the new year.

Three of the four direct invitations have already been revealed and among the lucky ones are Alliance, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Forward Gaming. Note that those teams will skip the group stage as a whole and will await their opponents at the start of 2019. The online event will follow the classic Round Robin format during the group stage and every series in the playoffs will be in a best-of-three format except the grand finals which will be a best-of-five clash. Shortly after Winter Madness, the Bucharest Minor will start on January 9.
