SXSW Gaming to host $100K Halo Championship Series in March

SXSW Gaming has announced the Halo Championship Series Invitational shortly after the Halo Classic in St. Louis was concluded a few weekends ago. The HCS will offer a variety of tournaments which will peak the fancy of fans and serious contenders.

With over $100,000 on the line, the Halo Championship Series (HCS) hosted by SXSW gaming promises to be a worthy successor of the already-concluded event in St. Louis. The HCS will be open to both professionals and fans who want to try their hand at competitive Halo. The event is kicking off on March 15, and the brawls will keep going for three straight days through March 17.

Tahir “Tashi” Hasandjekic from 343 Industries, the company that has provided the artwork for the tournament, had the following to say, cited by SXSW:

With the HCS Invitational, we’re looking to bring new flavors of entertainment to Halo esports in unique and exciting ways. Being at SXSW Gaming is a perfect fit for the HCS Invitational and we’re excited to be a part of one of the largest cultural touchstone events in the world.

The top six teams from Halo Classic have been invited to participate in the Halo 3 Showdown during the tournament and vie for a piece of the prizing money. There will also be a $5000 prize for the Microsoft Store 2 vs. 2 Throwdown.

A number of community figures will attend, with content creators and casters already invited to the pow-wow. In addition, fans will find themselves fighting in a Free-For-All Tournament with a prize pool of $5000.
