R+V Versicherung backs Schalke 04 in esports endeavors

German soccer club Schalke 04 has received further support by R+V Versicherung in a bid to consolidate its esports divisions across multiple competitive titles. From FIFA to LEC’s inaugural season, Schalke 04 is determined to reap successes.

German football club Schalke 04 has made а substantial investment in esports in 2018. In May 2018, Schalke 04 announced its intentions to be part of the inaugural League of Legends European Championship (LEC).

Since then, the company has been adding important partners, including Chinese smartphone maker Honor and insurance company R+V Versicherung. The latter has most recently agreed to expand their support of the Schalke 04 competitive gaming division, announcing that they would endorse the esports team until December 31, 2022.

Under the newly-negotiated deal, the R+V Versicherung logo will appear on the jerseys of players, replacing Schalke 04’s own name. A similar partnership was recently struck up between smartphone brand OnePlus and esports powerhouse Fnatic.

Schalke 04 has fielded competitors across several titles already, including:

  • FIFA 19
  • Pro Evolution Soccer
  • League of Legends

The company’s most ambitious objectives for 2019 are to tackle the LEC event and come on top of the DACH Premier Tour. German football clubs have been turning to esports recently, although some, such as FC Bayern Munich, went back on their plans to enter esports.
