G2 have signed former LDLC member François “AmaNEk” Delaunay to their CS:GO roster. He will take Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro’s place, who will be moved to the bench.
AmaNEk has been a free agent since New Year’s Eve when his contract obligations with Team LDLC came to an end. Being one of the more talented French players around, his name was involved in potential moves to the big names on the local scene – G2 and Team Vitality – even before he left LDLC.
Vitality actually went all in on one of AmaNEk’s teammates in LDLC – Alex “ALEX” McMeekin. The move was completed just days before AmaNEk announced his free agency, so the Vitality possibility was ruled out early on.
G2 had also been active in that time period. They replaced veterans Kévin “Ex6TenZ” Droolans and Edouard “SmithZz” Dubourdeaux with Audric “JaCkz” Jug and Lucas “Lucky” Chastang, essentially beginning a new era for the team.
The latest change comes right after an uneven performance at IEM Katowice that saw G2 barely get out of the first group and then bomb out of the second with a 1-3 record. This meant they would miss out on the playoffs for the sixth time in the seven Majors since G2 moved to a French lineup.
AmaNEk’s debut with his new squad will be at WESG. G2 were drawn in Group A alongside Ninjas in Pyjamas, Singularity and Revolution, but NiP withdrew in the last moment, leaving the group with only three teams. WESG begins this Monday, March 11.
