Fnatic gets first Worlds win, taking down 100Thieves

European League of Legends champion Fnatic took a decisive win to start their Worlds run, beating North America’s second seed 100 Thieves. Mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther demonstrated an impressive performance which surely helped seal the game.

The game started slow until Caps found a solo kill on Ryu “Ryu” Sang-wook’s Syndra 11 minutes in, then joined his team in a deep tower dive in the bot lane. That netted Fnatic several more kills, and at the 15-minute mark they had taken all 3 outer towers and were 4K gold ahead of their opponents.

The game slowed down and the teams quickly started playing around the baron. Eventually, Fnatic managed to blow a few flashes on the enemy team before finding two kills and used their advantage to start the baron. 100T nearly managed to pick it up with a Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho using an unsealed spellbook smite, but Martin “Rekkles” Larsson secured the objective and his team got three kills in the ensuing teamfight, resulting in a quick inhibitor grab. With a 10K gold lead and a rampaging Irelia finding key kills, the Thieves were on the ropes.

An attempt to catch Caps 26 minutes in turned into slaughter as he managed to survive until his team came and even got a kill to top it all off. With such a dramatic curtain call, Fnatic quickly ended the game.

The European champion looked solid, with Caps putting on an impressive carry performance, finding solo kills and rotating to help his team. 100Thieves held only in the top lane, but Ssumday was in a tank vs tank matchup and was unable to put out a lot of pressure.
