Wintrading exploit in ranked League of Legends

A bug in LoL’s ranked matchmaking is currently being abused to boost players through the ranks.

Content Creator “Vandiril” has often found obscure bugs and glitches in League of Legends. Now he has found another opening that is being abused to unfairly climb through the ranks.

Matchmaking in custom games

In his video Vandiril documents several accounts with a suspicious 100% winrate in ranked matches. Even more suspicious is their game length at seven minutes. According to Vandiril these players are using an external tool for that. Apparently the tool is being sold for $200 and enables creating custom games that somehow get flagged as ranked.

Abusers meet up in those fake ranked games and just trade wins with each other to reach their desired rank. Vandiril says that this exploit has been active for three months already with Riot showing no signs of fixing it.

The suspicious patterns of winrate and game length on these accounts should make it easy for Riot to find and ban exploiters, so it seems unlikely that it will threaten the integrity of the leaderboards. Nevertheless it seems concerning that the exploit has been known for so long without a reaction by the developer.
