Will Hyper Scape be relevant in the Battle Royale genre?

Hyper Scape is Ubisoft’s attempt to secure a place for itself in the already very crowded Battle Royale genre. Can Hyper Scape carve out its own niche in the genre or will it fail to win over new players?

Ubisoft’s Hyper Scape took very much the same route as Riot Games did with VALORANT to promote their new title, offering drops of their Technical Test through Twitch streams. Viewers lucky enough to secure their own drop would be able to download the game and test it out.

Hyper Scape’s gameplay is perhaps most similar to competitor Apex Legends. Most of the focus in the game went to its movement which is extremely fast-paced and smooth compared to other Battle Royale titles, leading to very intense and and twitchy gameplay. Players can also utilize abilities (hacks) which add certain moves to your loadout, ranging from teleporting to slamming down on the ground to damage enemies. Hyper Scape puts the focus on the game more on killing instead of surviving.

Reception for the game has been mostly positive as of now, but it’ll remain a question if Hyper Scape can compete with the likes of Warzone and Fortnite once the full game comes out. As of now the game isn’t that high up in the rankings when it comes to viewership on Twitch, however this could be due to the drop rate for the beta being pretty high.

All in all Hyper Scape offers a different flavour of Battle Royale, a flavour that might just be enough to carve out its own niche in this highly competitive genre.
