Who will be the new ADC of G2 Esports?

It’s looking more and more likely that G2 Esports and Luka “Perkz” Perković are parting ways. This leaves G2 with an open slot for the ADC position. But who is the most likely candidate to join up with the European powerhouse and how will they fit in with the rest of the roster?
Hakuna Matata

G2 Esports had a rough year, especially for the players. The epidemic hit them hard, having to play from home, but G2 owner Carlos Hakuna Matata’d his team through it all. Having won both splits in the LEC all looked like business as usual for the team, but G2 Esports did have their struggles when it came to gameplay. They were even knocked into the lower bracket in the LEC playoffs. When Worlds 2020 came around the corner, all eyes were on G2 Esports to be the dominant EU team we all expected them to be. Unfortunately, they fell against later World champion DAMWON Gaming in the semi-final.

The story of Perkz and Caps

G2 Esports is no stranger to experimentation. Having role swapped both Perkz and Caps to the bottom lane and middle lane, they showed a lot of flexibility, but in the end it looked like Perkz was the better bottom laner of the two and remained in the position until the end of 2020. In reality, it was a weird thing to have the two best mid laners of the LEC in the same team, meaning only one could play that role. Caps looked like the more well-rounded mid laner for the squad and carried the team a lot through the regular splits.

Nonetheless, it felt like Perkz was the only mid laner that could contest him, yet he was in the bottom lane position in the same team. This meant no competition for G2 Esports domestically. After this week, it was revealed that Perkz had ambitions to play mid again and thus the decision between Perkz and Caps had to be made for the G2 Esports line-up. By the looks of it, Caps will be staying and Perkz will be trying to find a new home.

We have no idea where Perkz is going, although it is rumoured that Cloud9 has a lot of interest in him and is in close contacts with G2 Esports. This deal concerned a 5 million dollar buy-out and more. That would be one of the most expensive transfers ever in League’s history and it would reunite Zven and Perkz. Our main concern is: who will replace him on G2 Esports?

Carzzy – The rookie

G2 Esports has exclusively veteran players on their roster. Most of them are familiar with the international stage, having played against the best players in the world. This could leave room for a less experienced player, a rookie, to complete their line-up. One that drew a lot of eyes domestically and on the Worlds 2020 stage was Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság.

The rookie bottom laner from MAD Lions has made quite the impression on analysts and fans alike, having a strong laning phase and wide champion pool. Although it looks like he is locked for MAD Lions next split, many things could still happen. If G2 Esports are really opting for a rookie, we can see Carzzy fill that spot. Not only does he have incredible talent; he is a really goofy guy just like the rest of G2 Esports. This could be a match made in heaven.

Upset – The veteran

A rookie looks like a good idea on paper, but G2 Esports has shown extreme dominance with veteran players domestically and internationally. This could mean that they are looking for an experienced, all-rounded, strong bottom laner. There were rumours of Elias “Upset” Lipp leaving EU, but if that is not the case, we can see G2 Esports trying to pick him up. Long has he been called the best bottom laner in EU without the trophies to show for it.

Being stuck on an underperforming Origen (now Astralis) roster, this bottom laner is hungry for more and his hunger could be fed and filled within a new G2 Esports roster. His experience and talent are unmatched within the region, even giving Rekkles a run for his money. This seems like the most likely fit for the new roster.

Zven – Return of a Dynasty?

We could not help but hope that even Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen might be an option for the new G2 Esports line-up. This would mean a return of one of Europe’s greatest talents and most dominant laners. With mithy most likely leaving Fnatic, they could both return to their home: G2 Esports. Zven as the new bottom laner, where he would have a lot of synergy with old teammates; and mithy as an assistant coach. The talks between Cloud9 and G2 Esports might even be talks of a trade if this is the case.

The waiting game

We should make it clear that these are mostly speculations based on rumours. It could very well be that the next bottom laner for G2 Esports is not even listed here. They have been known to make crazy roster swaps, so nothing is for sure.
