Who can take down Evil Geniuses? – DPC NA Halfway point

The second DPC season might even be more exciting than the first one, now that we have all experienced how every single game matters.

Teams are definitely not going to be holding back anymore. Especially with TI looming on the horizon. Today we are going to check in how this pressure has been affecting the teams in the land of the free. What more can we expect from North America after the first few weeks of DPC action?

The boys on top

By finishing with a top two placement, the North american kings of Evil Geniuses have shown that North America is not a region to underestimate. Showing that they can outperform the international competition they have also put a giant target on their back however. For any North American team that is able to take them down, might be the team who will find themselves in the next major finals. So far however, this seems to be a difficult endeavor. In their first game Evil Geniuses took care of The Cut by forcing the GG in only seventeen minutes. By carrying the momentum from their major performance EG seems to be on an unstoppable streak.

After three series they are still going undefeated, not even giving up a single match to their opponents.  The Cut, 4 Zoomers and Sadboys were all unable to put up any real resistance to the boys. Nonetheless there are definitely still some possible roadblocks ahead of them in the future, as they are yet to play the other two contenders for the North American top spot, Undying and Quincy Crew.

The grand chase

There are two other teams in North America who have yet to lose a series. Quincy Crew not even losing a single game, just like EG. With these three teams only playing each other in the last two weeks of the season, it all seems to be a great leadup to those important games. As long as they don’t make any slip-ups against the lesser teams in the league they have a good shot at taking a series from EG, and maybe securing themselves a spot at the next major.

Undying have already shown that they can hold firm under the thickest of circumstances. Making use of the peruvian Enzo “Timado” Gianoli O’Connor and his incredible mechanical skill to team seems to have found effective four protect one strategy around their hard carry player. Time and time again he seems to be absolutely tearing his opponents apart using heroes like Morphling, Terrorblade and Phantom Assassin. All this under the leadership of the experienced korean mastermind Kim “DuBu” Doo-young, seeking for a way to retake that past MVP Phoenix glory.

Furthermore Quincy Crew still ain’t done with Evil Geniuses either after almost dethroning them from their top spot last season, only to get forced into a tiebreaker by Undying, which they subsequently lost. The team is now poised for revenge. Their major performance might have been middeling, but what can you really expect from a team that is forced to play with a standin. Instead it seems that with their full squad once again complete, they are stronger than ever. One-upping EG by taking out the cut in only sixteen minutes instead of seventeen, and showing their versatility with their ability to win games with heroes like Hoodwink and Luna.

Target practice

In the middle of the pack teams like Black N Yellow, simply TOOBASED and 4 Zoomers seem able to at least put up a respectable fight against the top three. Down below in the trenches Sadboys and The Cut have proven to be nothing more than target practice so far. Not being able to win a single game, and many times being GG’ed out before the 20 minute mark even hits, these two teams seem too far below the expected skill level for the North American upper division.

While Sadboys had to endure some painful roster changes with losing PPD, The Cut just came up from the lower division. Making it so that you might question the skill of any further lower division team to come in. Well, at least their disappointing performance is allowing Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao to most likely stay in the upper division with his team Black N Yellow, bringing us many of his entertaining plays like we are used to from him.

All in all it seems last season’s balance of powers is still in full effect in North America for now and that only in the last two weeks of the competition we might see some changes, as the great powers of Evil Geniuses, Quincy Crew and Undying will finally have their great war over the throne of North America.
