What to expect from the Call of Duty League Super Week

As we move into the second round of games in the Call of Duty League, which teams will shine and what are some of the most important games of the week?
3 Games To Watch During CDL’s Superweek

The Call of Duty League begins the next series of games with a super week. Games will span from Monday February 22nd to the 28th as teams will vie for seeding in the first tournament of the year and fight to be the first major champions. This extended week of games will give most teams plenty of opportunities to show off their rosters in full and try out their best tactics and load outs. Below are the games that we believe will be the most interesting to watch and will have the most ramifications for the coming major.

Will FaZe Continue Dominance?
  • Toronto Ultra vs Atlanta FaZe (Monday Feb. 22nd 4:30 EST)

Last season Toronto Ultra had a rather average regular season record and ended with a 47%-win rate but managed to have a fairly strong playoff run. The team exceeded expectations by making it to round three of the Winner’s bracket and ultimately lost out to the future champions, Dallas Empire. Last week, Toronto Ultra performed well in their single game against the Florida Mutineers where they only dropped one game.
Cammy has shown incredible playmaking ability, but Cleanx has been the team’s top fragger so far. Cleanx for the most kills on a Hardpoint game with 36 total kills.

Many people may have prematurely put Toronto Ultra near the bottom of their power rankings, but to prove they belong at the top of the CDL Toronto will have to continue this performance. Toronto will be faced with the momentous task of taking down Atlanta FaZe. FaZe cruised to a victory over the Los Angeles Guerillas and already defeated one of the projected best teams in the CDL by defeating Chicago OpTic. Simp and Abezy have been a dynamic duo for Atlanta FaZe and have posted some of the best stats in the league. Simp has the 3rd highest overall K/D (1.24) and Abezy clutched out multiple games, also proving himself the top entry fragger in the CDL by going 1st in first blood percentage.

FaZe’s roster depth makes them a difficult team to take down and after the first week Ultra are undoubtedly the underdogs going into their most important game yet. Despite the potential of this roster, I project that Atlanta FaZe will come away with a 3 – 1 win.

Clayster’s Grudge Match
  • Dallas Empire vs New York Subliners (Friday Feb. 26th 6:00)

One of the biggest headlines to come out of the switch to four man rosters came when Dallas Empire dropped Clayster. Clayster ended up on the New York Subliners. Now, Clayster faces his old teammates in his fourth match of the season. The new NYSL roster was dealt a disappointing debut however, as they lost 0 – 3 to the Los Angeles Thieves. The Subliners made every game close however, as they came within one round of winning both S&D and Raid and trailed only 10 points behind on Hardpoint.

The team needs to execute better as the margin of error will only be thinner against top teams like Dallas Empire. Though admittedly with only a one game sample size, NYSL seems like an outsider looking in on the top half of the CDL. On the other side, Huke had one of the best individual performances of last week as he finished with the highest overall K/D (1.39).

Empire is a team full of self sufficient fraggers that all have clutch potential, but they need to show that they can bounce back from a loss as they suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of Minnesota Rokker. Dallas has three important games this week and a strong showing here will open the possibility that they could repeat their championship performance. I project this series to go the distance but ultimately Dallas to come out with a 3 – 2 victory.

Can OpTic Bounce Back?

Chicago OpTic vs Los Angeles Guerrillas (Thursday Feb. 25th 4:30 EST)

OpTic had their first loss of the season after valiantly taking FaZe to game 5. While the series was competitive, OpTic’s failing came from their S&D performance where between two games they only took one round. If OpTic can cover this lingering fault in their gameplay, they can contend for first as the existing cohesion they have has proven to be one of their biggest upsides. Scump and FormaL provide some of the best veteran leadership in the game however Dashy may be this series’ key player as he heralds 1.24 K/D, the 2nd highest in the CDL.

The Guerillas also went 1 -1 last week and had a mixed showing. Apathy has shown some glimpses of greatness and will prove to be OpTic’s primary obstacle in this series. Both teams have something to prove in this series, but ultimately OpTic will show that they can rebound with a strong 3 – 0.
