After a period of silence Valve have finally come out with an update on the Rio Major which would have taken place later this year. They also spoke out about the recent controversy surrounding an in-game bug which some coaches exploited in competitive matches and are taking serious measures.
Valve released a blog post to their website in which they explain their decision to cancel the Majors. “we’re going to hold off on scheduling Majors until, at a minimum, Regional Major Ranking (RMR) LAN events are safe to hold around the world. Until then, we expect to continue to hold online RMR events to keep track of the best teams in each region.”

Later on in the blog post they also talk about competitive integrity and the measures they are taking to punish teams and coaches that exploited the camera bug. Teams that received a disqualification due to exploiting the bug in a competitive setting will have all their RMR points reset, which includes teams such as MIBR and Hard Legion.

Valve isn’t going to be taking action against individual coaches for now. They are however thinking about possibly limiting the coaching role in the future. “we’re going to wait until we get a complete picture of the extent of the bug abuse and the punishments handed down by third parties. Regardless of those penalties, mid-match coaching will always be a tempting opportunity for some teams to violate the integrity of the match. So we may also consider limitations to coaching.”
