VALORANT’s Anti-Cheat team is full of former Cheaters

Who is actually on VALORANT’s Anti-Cheat team and how do they work? Answers for these questions could be found in an interview Anti-Cheat-Lead Phillip Koskinas gave to Agent’s Range.

A department full of ex-cheaters

Koskinas was recruited by Riot, way back due to League of Legends cheats he wrote. “Back then, I did it out of personal interest,  because I was always bad at video games. I can’t aim, never could. Which is why I cheated a lot in order to keep up with my friends. Riot then contacted me and recruited me.”

It is more or less common practice for many game developers to recrruit cheaters for their anti-cheat departments. “It takes a cheater to know a cheater” as the saying goes. For VALORANT Riot recruited an entire team out of former cheaters according to Koskinas.

“The entire anti-cheat team consists of former cheaters. Everyone cheated before he came here, you kind of have to have done so to understand everything.” While the department is obviously hard at work trying to prevent cheaters from becoming too much of a problem, there will always be some cheaters around.

“(Cheaters) will always be able to use cheats to read out things on your screen or simulate inputs. Put we make sure that it is not profitable to anyone.”
