Twitch reportedly lost Dr Lupo and TimTheTatman after offering less money than before

The shock moves of DrLupo and TimTheTatman away from Twitch surprised many, as both streamers had quite some big ties to the Twitch platform. Both streamers went ahead and signed contracts with YouTube, where they’ll go on to stream exclusively. The reason behind their decision might have something to do with Twitch’s new strategy when it comes to offering contracts to top streamers.

Ninja paved the way for streamers signing big contracts and tying themselves to platforms with his move to Mixer, Shroud later doing the same. Now, according to a report by The Washington Post, Twitch has decided that these contracts might not be worth it. According to previous staff members, the platform has been lowballing streamers on these contracts and have consistently been offering less money, making their move to YouTube a lot more attractive.

With Twitch making most of its money on ads, they sign big streamers to make their brand more attractive. A lot of the big streamers eventually don’t want to play more ads, which isn’t in the best interest of Twitch, but their contracts often offer additional money if a certain number of ads played and time streamed are reached. This has led Twitch to offer less money to streamers for adhering to these contracts.
