Fake followers and bot accounts have been an issue on Twitch for years now, as they now look to tackle the problem.
Twitch announced that they’d be purging accounts on Twitter. “We have been monitoring the rise of fake engagement on Twitch and have identified 7.5MM+ accounts that break our TOS by follow-botting and view-botting. We are taking action on these accounts and appreciate all of the reports about this issue.” The streaming service also went on to say that due to the removal of bots, some streamers or fans might see their follower count go down in the upcoming days.
A majority of these accounts were detected through ongoing machine learning technology that will continue to improve and we will continue to operate going forward. We engage in enforcement when necessary including pursuing legal action.

It looks like Twitch has integrated new technology to detect these accounts and bots and is now targeting them for removal. “A majority of these accounts were detected through ongoing machine learning technology that will continue to improve and we will continue to operate going forward. We engage in enforcement when necessary including pursuing legal action.”
The results when it comes to follower count for some of the top streamers were huge. XQc for example went on to lose over 2 million followers overnight, bringing his follower count from just over 8 million to just under 6 million. Shroud, another top streamer, lost more than 250.000 followers.
