Crypto Exchange compant, FTX, will be paying TSM $210 million to change the name of the historic esports organization.
One of North America’s most recognizable and historic brands, TSM, will be undergoing a name change in the near future. After signing an incredible $210 million dollar contract with FTX, TSM will now go by TSM FTX. This name change will accompany TSM’s various rosters across all their existing esports endeavors, including their League of Legends roster in the LCS.
Contract details have revealed that TSM will receive $21 million annually over the course of the ten year contract. To date, this is by far the largest investment deal ever publicly disclosed by an esports organization. TSM has made a habit of signing record shattering deals. In the LCS offseason, TSM made the most expensive player signing in acquiring Hu “SwordArt” Shuo-Chieh for $6 million.
Now, with far greater annual capital than ever before, TSM will the capability to invest far more into their rosters. Partnering with companies and signing naming rights contracts is a growing trend in esports. Recently, NRG partnered with The General to change their Rocket League team to feature the insurance company’s name. Similarly, Dignitas signed a four-year contract with QNTMPAY.
TSM will be making their League of Legends debut this weekend as TSM FTX. Other esports titles will follow suit, as rosters in VALORANT, PUBG, R6, and more will see this similar change. Whether or not this trend continues remains to be see, but TSM can certainly be expected to make waves with their sudden infusion of capital annually.
