Time to Rebuild the Green Wall – H3CZ reacquires OpTic

It took a long time for H3CZ to pull it off, but now the former CEO is back in control of OpTic Gaming. H3CZ reacquired the brand from Immortals Gaming Club.

Weeks full of rumours have finally come to a close. OpTic officially announced the news on Twitter on November 11. This marks a return to its roots by the long-standing company with one of the largest legacies in esports. Ever since the organisation was first sold to Infinite Esports & Entertainment in 2017 OpTic seemed to be on a downturn.

OpTic’s struggles over the years

Aggressive expansion eventually caught up and led to continuous downsizing under the new management until in 2019 Infinite threw in the towel and put OpTic up for sale. While Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez tried to reacquire the brand back then, Infinity eventually sold OpTic to Immortals Gaming Club. It was at that moment, that H3CZ decided to call it quits and left an organisation he had been the face of for such a long time. While he went over to NRG Esports to become Co-CEO, he always set himself the goal to get OpTic back.

When H3CZ left, the majority of the devoted fanbase left as well. “The Green Wall” famed for its passion disappeared and the OpTic teams under the Immortals banner had to contend with boos instead of cheers from the crowd. It seemed like one of esports’ early giants was done and dusted.

It is important to keep that legacy in mind to understand just how much H3CZ return to OpTic means for the fans. Before the downfall OpTic had been by far the largest Call of Duty brand of the scene and a juggernaut hardly comparable to its current status.

A new beginning

The first building block to regain OpTic’s former status is now already underway. At NRG H3CZ had been responsible for their Call of Duty League (CDL) team Chicago Huntsman with former OpTic household names like Seth “Scump” Abner. The team that made it to third place in the 2020 CDL will now be known as OpTic Chicago and therfore also officially become the inheritors of the brand.

Many fans have greeted the news with joy and relief that their beloved team is finally back in good hands. H3CZ now has the task to meet those expectations and steer the OpTic brand on track. It is a long road to rebuild one of the most iconic brands in the scene but if someone is fit to do it for OpTic it has to be H3CZ.

The Immortals-owned OpTic Gaming Los Angeles in the CDL has since been acquired by 100 Thieves and rebranded to L.A. Thieves.
