This is how Twitch will replace the PogChamp emote

Earlier streaming platform Twitch decided to replace the PogChamp emote following some controversy concerning Gootecks, the person depicted in the emote. Now Twitch has announced they’ll be replacing the PogChamp emote and they’ll do it in a pretty interesting way.

Twitch will be replacing PogChamp by assigning a different image to it, which will change every 24 hours. This idea was originally suggested by Sean Plott on Twitter. “Yo Twitch, a suggestion for PogChamp. Create a database of streamer and/or general faces. Whenever someone types PogChamp, display one of these faces at random. Would give a really nice crowd feel to a chat spamming PogChamp and allow the meaning to be tied to all of us instead.” Twitch decided to go along with the idea.

The first person to be depicted in the new PogChamp emote is content creator unrooolie. The community reaction towards the idea has been mixed, with some loving the idea while others think it takes away from the original meaning of the emote. Others, such as games journalist Richard Lewis, also pointed out some of the people behind these ‘random’ emotes might also have some bad tweets to their name.

What do you think about this idea? Do you think it’s a good solution after deleting the original PogChamp emote or would you have done something else? Join the discussion on Social Media or our Discord
