During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, we got to hear some familiar tunes stemming from some of our favorite video game franchises.
Video games are a huge part of the culture in Japan and some of them have some amazing (sometimes even orchestral) tunes. During the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, we got to hear almost exclusively video game music when the olympians walked out into the mostly empty stadium. We’ve listed some of our favorites below, followed by the full list.
Dragon Quest – Roto’s Theme
Roto’s Theme from Dragon Quest was the first song to be played as the contestants from Greece walked into the stadium. Quite fitting, with Roto being an honorary title for legendary heroes.
Final Fantasy – Victory Fanfare
Final Fantasy remains one of the most influential franchises to this day and the Victory Fanfare is the ideal tune to get the athletes pumped for what’s ahead.
Monster Hunter – Proof of a Hero
Nothing says grand-scale and epic like Monster Hunter does. Proof of a Hero is an epic orchestral song and actually fits the Olympic theme quite nicely.
