The biggest LEC and LCS offseason roster rumours

Now that the League of Legends World Championship is over and done with, it’s time for the teams to look at their roster and start looking for new players or try and keep them around. This offseason might become a very interesting one as a lot of key players and top teams could be looking to change things up, possibly changing the power dynamic within the region.

Perkz leaving G2 Esports?

After placing fourth at the League of Legends World Championship 2020, it seems like the old G2 Esports roster won’t be staying together any longer. The prime candidate to leave the roster is rumoured to be Luka “Perkz” Perkovic. Right now a move to North America seems most likely, as those teams would be capable of affording his buy-out. As of 10/11, Cloud9 seems to be the most likely candidate, but multiple LCS teams are reportedly interested.

Fnatic has also been cited as a possible destination for him, where he’ll replace Nemesis and return to the mid lane once again, but it’s less and less likely.  If G2 Esports does alter its line-up and lets Perkz go, they’ll be looking for a new bot laner to fill the gap. According to rumours, G2 Esports might be interested in current Astralis (former Origen) bot laner Elias “Upset” Lipp. In Upset they might find a strong mechanical player that fits their playstyle, who wasn’t able to really shine during his time with Astralis.

All about the top lane

A more recent rumour sees Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik leaving TSM and joining Schalke 04 in the LEC for the 2021 season. Schalke 04 will be in need of a top laner as Odoamne’s contract is set to end on November 16 and will probably leave the organization. After re-signing their star jungler Erberk “Gilius” Demir, the team looks set to build around him. We’ll probably find out more about Schalke 04 as the contracts of their mid and bot lane are also running out. Andrei “Odoamne” Pascal might possibly move to Rogue, as Rogue is reportedly interested.

One of the biggest stories in this off-season is the one of Astralis top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris, often cited as the best top laner in the LEC. As he’s set to leave Astralis he’s been linked with multiple teams in both the LCS (which seems more likely according to the rumours) and the LEC. Team Liquid is reportedly very interested in Alphari, possibly replacing top laner Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong. In the LEC it’s Rogue that might be eying up Alphari as a replacement for Finn “Finn” Wiestål.

Liquid getting stronger

Team Liquid might also go through some more changes after extending the contract of mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen. Aside from the interest in Alphari, multiple reports (from Travis Gafford) have said jungler Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen will become a free agent. Team Liquid might be looking to add jungler Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen from Flyquest to the roster. If the Alphari deal goes through, Impact reportedly has some interest from TSM following the Broken Blade rumours.

Return of a veteran?

The LCS might also see the return of one of its biggest players. According to Travis Gafford, Team Dignitas might be in talks with Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi for the ADC position. This rumour came out after Dignitas ADC Johnson “Johnsun” Nguyen is reportedly moving to 100 Thieves. This is more likely now that ADC Liyu “Cody Sun” Sun has left 100 Thieves (10/11).  Johnsun’s not the only one however, as Golden Guardians ADC Ian Victor “FBI” Huang is also rumoured to be linked with the organization. As an Australian, FBI would no longer count as an import spot within an LCS roster following the OPL closing down.

Debunked

Other possible transfers were reportedly debunked, such as a possible move of Rogue mid laner Emil “Larssen” Larsson to TSM in the LCS or Sandbox Gaming mid laner Yoo “FATE” Su-hyeok to the LCS.

The waiting game

It’ll be interesting to see how these rumours within the rosters play out and how the dynamic between the teams may shift. Will we still see G2 Esports and Fnatic on top in Europe or will another team take over? Is Team Liquid building a team of superstars in the LCS and how will TSM cope with the loss of Bjergsen as a player (and him in the coaching position)? We’ll have to wait and see. This article will be updated when more information comes out.
