The 3 most toxic players in pro Dota 2

Sometimes either the pressure or game gets the better of you and sometimes that might happen a little too often. Which Dota 2 player is the most toxic, however?

We have all experienced, in one way or another, being so invested in winning your video game you forget about the feelings of others. The toxic behaviour that spawns from this is not only common in pub games but the pro scene has a good amount of it as well.

Luckily there are enough exemplary pro players like GH whose positive attitude can make them seem like a modern day Gandhi. However, there are also some pro’s that time and time again show that their emotional control lags behind their control over the mouse. In this article we will showcase three of these toxic pro’s in a top three list.

#3 – Puppey

From winning the first International to still performing on the highest level with Team Secret. Clement “Puppey” Ivanov has shown that he has the skill and experience to lead his teams to victory. However, his passion for winning sometimes can get the better of him. A famous example is puppey’s monitor throw from back in 2016. After being let go from Team Secret Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao would release one of his famous blog posts about what was going on behind the scenes in Team Secret. Bringing up many questionable practices like the fact that team secret’s owner would use the teams price money to hire sexworkers.

Among these allegations was the fact that Puppey was a really hard person to work with, stating that Puppey would often lose it when things weren’t exactly going his way. He linked a clip from a security camera in a chinese LAN Center where the team was training during a chinese tournament. A clip showing how Puppey lost his calm and tossed his headset towards the monitor in a fit of rage. Ever since the name of Puppey has been synonymous with tossing headsets at monitors.

#2 EternaLEnVy

We already mentioned EternaLEnVy in our last bit about Puppey, but this canadian anime lover is definitely not without his own controversy. Being the heart and soul of the old Cloud9 teams from 2013 to 2016 many fans have a soft spot for the man. Yet, many other people loath the player and wish he would disappear from the dota 2 scene as a whole. The reason for this is twofold. First of all: EternaLEnVy has an incredible need to win, often forgoing to look at the social consequences of a decision. If he thinks it can increase his chances of winning, he will do it. The kicks of Ohaiyo and Gunnar are some really good examples of this.

The second thing is that he tends to be a little bit too honest for his own good. When he does not agree with something, EternaLEnVy will tell you in great detail about why you are wrong. This abrasive honesty has often gotten him in trouble. For instance, in his blog posts he would often call out other pro’s about things he doesn’t agree with. Not reflecting on himself however, many see his behavior as hypocritical.

#1 Funn1k

The CIS is region is known for its brash players who don’t talk around their problems. Like their aggressive playstyle ingame, out of game CIS players can really get under each others skin. Gleb “Funn1k” Lipatnikov is no exception in this CIS patern. Not only is he known for his uncanny resemblance to the famous actor Chloë Grace Moretz, but Funnik is also known as one of the people who played on Na’Vi’s legendary TI3 roster. But after that iteration of Na’Vi dissolved he seemed to have a lot of difficulty in trying to regain his former glory as one of the best offlaners in the world.

Instead of looking towards himself to improve, he insisted it was the whole CIS region that was the reason he couldn’t place high in tournaments. Something he tried to make clear in an infamous stream from four years ago. A stream that is still spawning copypasta to this day. Stating that he was part of the 1% of CIS players that knew what they were was doing. That he had the so-called “Lunar Facts” to back it up. While players like are Artstyle, Dendi and Sonneiko were “Pussies” and “Stupid Chicks”.

The total amount garbage that he piled into the CIS scene with this stream is imposible describe in text. But believe me, he was not holding back. Nowadays Funn1k still swirls around the tier 2 CIS scene, trying to reclaim his former glory. Maybe not the best offlaner of Dota 2 anymore, he certainly is still one of the most toxic players in Dota 2. Now I just hope he isn’t going to look for me, and Walrus Punch me so hard that I’m going to be stunned for one year.
