Team Matchmaking finally coming to VALORANT?

In their year-end blog post the VALORANT developers have discussed upcoming features for VALORANT in 2021.

As a team-based tactical shooter VALORANT’s developers are focusing on improving the matchmaking experience. In order to do so Riot have shared their thoughts in their most recent blog.

Especially the following sentence will address a highly desired feature: “Gotta be coy here, but later next year, we plan to create a way to prove your skills and see how you stack up as a team. ” That will have two huge benefits for the community:

  • It will allow Immortal and Radiant players to finally play Matchmaking in a “true” team. That should not only improve the quality of the matchmaking but also reduce queue times.
  • If you are aiming to improve you are always advised to gather a team. With team-based matchmaking you can finally have more coordination instead of five individual players doing their things, even on lower ranks. It should also result in a decline of AFKing players or trolls..

The developers also shared a screenshot showing leaderboards in-game:

New social functions

During the development throughout the year Riot has also assembled a team focused on social functions and aspects in the game. That team’s focus is to conteract the increasing number of AFKing players at the moment.

More VALORANT:

The current ping system will also be reworked and adjusted for easier and more informative non-verbal communication, but Riot has not announced any details regarding that so far. Other measures of the team will focus on improving the community to make the playing experience as fun and friendly for all involved players.
