Team Liquid beats G2 Esports in Worlds 2020 group stage

Things have seemed pretty grim for North America in the Worlds 2020 Main Event group stage, but Team Liquid has managed to take a win off G2 Esports in the first game of the day. Team Liquid now also has a first win under their belt after FlyQuest also managed to win a game yesterday.

Things started off great for Team Liquid early in the match as they saw an early kill go towards the Kalista of Edward “Tactical” Ra after a jungle invade, putting Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski of G2 Esports on a deficit early on. All lanes except for the top lane found individual leads for Liquid. Even though G2 Esports found some great picks and won some skirmishes, Team Liquid kept their advantage throughout the game as they secured the Infernal Soul and their first victory in group A.

The loss seems out of character for a G2 Esports that had some strong showings in the tournament already, beating Suning and Machi Esports to whom Liquid lost. Then again, G2 Esports is known for their underestimating and disrespecting teams and some fans see the loss to Liquid as just a bump in the road. Their loss has already been memed extensively on Twitter and Reddit.

Team Liquid and G2 Esports will meet again tomorrow on day 5 of the group stage when group A finishes up. It’ll be interesting to see if Team Liquid can repeat their feat once more and perhaps even take a win of Suning or Machi Esports.
