Suning and G2 Esports make it out of groups, Team Liquid falls short

Group A at Worlds 2020 has concluded and both Suning and G2 Esports made it out of groups, while Machi Esports and Team Liquid will have to return home. Team Liquid did show up in their final two games, but was unable to force a tiebreaker after G2 Esports lost to Suning.

The day started off with G2 Esports taking revenge on Team Liquid for their loss on Tuesday, punishing them harshly and completely dominating them while pulling out the win. Team Liquid did however fight back, picking up important wins against both Suning and Machi Esports. Thanks to their results they could still have made groups if G2 Esports was able to beat Suning in the final scheduled match of the day.

In that final game Suning came out ahead looking very strong, as G2 Esports got punished hard for a mediocre draft and their greed in the early game. Team Liquid wouldn’t get their tiebreaker, instead Suning and G2 Esports had to play one more match to decide who left groups with the second seed.

That final tiebreaker game turned out to be a nailbiter for both teams. Suning stayed ahead throughout the entire game but G2 Esports was able to hang on, mostly thanks to Luca “Perkz” Perkovic and his stellar Senna. After securing the Infernal Soul G2 Esports got blown up by Suning, thanks to the Gangplank of Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin and a well-placed barrel. G2 Esports gets the second seed and runs the risk of encountering one of the tournament favourites in the playoffs, while Suning took away the first seed.
