Steam breaks their concurrent user record again, exceed 26 million users

Steam, the gaming platform by Valve, is as popular as it has ever been, breaking the concurrent user record once more.

Steam has broken its previous concurrent user record by quite a considerable margin, going up from 25.4 million users to 26.4 million users this weekend. Interestingly enough, the previous record was set at the start of January 2021, with it now being broken just a month later. This past month the gaming platform has shown more than 120 million active users logging on, which is more than the amount of monthly users on other platforms such as PlayStation Network Xbox Live.

Alongside the insanely high numbers of online players, Steam has also continued to show growth over the past few months, finding itself with 620.000 new accounts in January. The biggest reason behind the growth and high amount of concurrent users is without a doubt the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to new lockdowns being enforced in many countries leaving more and more people with plenty of free time.

It’ll be interesting to see if this growth keeps up and, depending on how the COVID-19 situation evolves, if Steam can retain these kinds of numbers going forward. The pandemic has without a doubt increased the amount of gamers connecting with each other online.
