Sources: Rekkles is set to leave G2 Esports for the 2022 competitive season

Per Pablo Suárez of Dot Esports, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson will not return to the G2 Esports starting roster in 2022. Rekkles’ was originally signed to a two-year contract, set to expire in 2023. The relationship between the two are reportedly strained, and G2 is in the process of selling the ADC’s contract.

G2 are also allegedly trying out several ADCs across multiple ERL teams. Rumors have swirled around which ERL players are likely to make the team, however no replacement has been confirmed.

Rekkles initially joined G2 Esports at the beginning of the 2021 season, leaving his franchise player spot at Fnatic. G2 Esports were expected to dominate the LEC, but ultimately failed to make the finals of either domestic split and did not qualify for Worlds 2021. Rekkles was reportedly set to host the Worlds 2021 Group Draw, but backed out last minute. Instead, G2 Jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski filled in for Rekkles.

G2 Esports have alredy been expected to make major offseason moves following their disastrous 2021 season. Martin “Wunder” Hansen, Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, and Fabian “Grabbz” Lohmann have all reportedly been placed on the trading block. Team Vitality have allegedly shown interest in the superstar ADC, however G2 has not opened talks with the fellow European organization.

Speculation has only grown over where Rekkles may end up. G2 team owner, Carlos Santiago, made a statement last offseason by selling their franchise midlaner, Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, to an LCS team. This way, G2 avoided having to face a top tier player in their own domestic region. While none of these rumors have been confirmed by G2, it could be possible that we see a repeat of this.
