Smash Bros Community shocked by sexual assault and pedophilia accusations

In the past days multiple professional players from the Smash Bros scene came forward with allegations of sexual assault and pedophilia within their community. A lot of notable figures were accused, including the co-founder of popular tournament Evo.
Pedophilia in the Smash Bros. Community

The Smash community was shocked when Troy “Puppeh” Wells came out with a story regarding Cinnamon “Cinnpie” Dunson, who he claims to have had a sexual relationship with when he was 14 while she was 24 years old. In his statement he talks about Cinnpie initiating the relationship, emotional abuse, grooming and gaslighting.

Other stories about Cinnpie also surfaced in the following days, with Glyphmoney releasing a statement. “There are predators in our scene. Sometimes, those people are going to become successful, and then hold enough sway to silence the people they’ve abused. Our scene NEEDS the Smash Panel to keep people like that in check, and when TOs undermine that, they actively enable further predatory behavior.” As of yet, Cinnpie hasn’t responded to Puppeh’s or Glyphmoney’s statements.

Even more stories (Nairo and Keitaro)

Shortly after more pedophilia accusations surfaced in the Smash Bros. community, this time regarding Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada, who entered a sexual relationship with Zack “CaptainZack” Lauth. CaptainZack was a minor at the time and also claims Nairo and his brother paid him money to remain silent on the matter. Nairo was subsequently released from his organisation NRG following the allegations and released a statement on his Twitter, where he thanks the NRG staff and apologizes to CaptainZack.

Richard “Keitaro” King also faced allegations of sexual assault regarding 16-year old “Shiva”, who was his Smash Doubles partner for the tournament (2GG Hyrule Saga). Keitaro, who was 29 when the events took place, would later admit to the assault which occurred at a house party two years ago while Shiva was under the influence of alcohol. Keitaro would go on to release an apology and decided to leave his community and the scene for a while.

D’Ron “D1” Maingrette

Smash Bros. caster D’Ron “D1” Maingrette also got accused of sexual assault by KTDominate, who he supposedly raped in November 2016 at Smash The Record after a party. According to KTDominate she was drunk and didn’t have her medicine available, meaning she was unable to consent.

D1 responded to the accusations with a statement he released on Twitter saying he himself doesn’t remember anything that happened the night the events took place. He closed of his statement with an apology. D1 is currently active as a Nintendo ambassador yet Nintendo themselves have not responded to the situation.

Evo Online gets cancelled

Multiple serious sexual abuse allegations also surfaced against Evo co-founder Joey Cuellar, who was later removed from the tournament organization and replaced by Tony Cannon. Allegations about Cuellar were made by Mikey “Crackpr0n” Pham, who relayed multiple events of sexual abuse and manipulation, some of which happened when he was a minor.

In light of these allegations, multiple professional players pulled out of the tournament with companies such as Bandai Namco and Capcom withdrawing as well. Eventually the organization behind the tournament decided to cancel Evo Online which would have started July 4th and released a statement regarding Cuellar and his removal from Evo.
