Season 4 Reloaded – How to play the new SMG meta

A lot of the SMGs got nerfed in this update. So which ones should you play now? Here are the meta builds for the best submachine guns!

Solo and Duos

Generally speaking you need less ammunition in Solos and Duos. Thats because you do not have to kill a lot of enemies with a single magazine. For that reason the best SMGs in those modes are the new OTs 9 and the AS VAL. With bigger team sizes you will struggle with these weapons because of their limited ammo capacity and might just get killed while reloading.

OTs 9

The OTs 9 is the strongest submachine gun in the game but the gun has a big downside. The regular magazine is very small. For that reason you should use the biggest magazine. The 40 Rnd Magazine is still pretty small but it is enough to down enemies in Solos.

To surprise your enemies in close combat you should use the Tiger Team Spotlight and the KGB Skeletal Stock. We explained in this article why the latter attachment is so good. Additionally you should use the 8.1” barrel and the Suppressor to boost your damage range and bullet velocity.

You should use these attachments for the OTs 9:

  • Muzzle: Suppressor
  • Barrel: 8.1″ Task Force
  • Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Magazine: 40 Rnd
  • Stock: KGB Skeletal Stock
If you want to see some crazy crossbow action instead of SMGs here are some of the best shots we have found:

AS VAL

The strongest SMG in Warzone is actually not a submachine gun. Generally, the AS VAL is used like an SMG even though it is an assault rifle. Due to its ridiculously high damage it is the most devastating option for close quarters, outdamaging the nail gun at release which was declared overpowered and even downing enemies faster than shotguns.

Of course it has a massive downside: The AS VAL fires extremly fast. And with its small magazine you will run out of ammunition really fast. For that reason you not only need the biggest magazine attachment but also the perk Sleight of Hand for faster reloads.

The weapon comes with a pre-installed suppressor so you do not need to equip one. You do not need a barrel either because the AS VAL has a higher damage range than most SMGs since it is an assault rifle. Because of that you should focus on your sprint to fire time which coincidentally will also boost your hipfire ability.

You should use these attachments for the AS VAL:

  • Grip: Merc Foregrip
  • Laser: 5mW Laser
  • Magazine: 30 Rnd
  • Grip: Stippled Grip Tape
  • Perk: Sleight of Hand

General Meta

Because the weapons in Solos can have huge ammunition issues a lot of the players use other guns. These guns are good in every mode and can be a great addition in your loadout.

MP5

The MP5 is infamous for dominating the meta since the release of Warzone. Even after countless nerfs the MP5 was the top dog until the Cold War integration. Since all of the other SMGs got nerfed the MP5 is rising to the top again.

The attachments for the current MP5 are the same as back then. The Integrated Monolithic Suppressor gives you the highest damage range while the 45 Rnd Magazine will boost your ammunition count. For improved hipfire and recoil control you should use the Merc Foregrip. To have the highest mobility you should use the Collapsible stock and the Stippled Grip Tape. If you wish to have higher accuracy while hipfiring you can swap the grip for the 5mW laser.

You should use these attachments for the Modern Warfare MP5:

  • Barrel: Integrated Monolithic Suppressor
  • Underbarrel: Merc Foregrip
  • Ammunition: 45 Rnd Magazine
  • Grip: Stippled Grip Tape
  • Stock: FTAC Collapsible
Sykov

Due to the nerfs on all the SMGs, there is yet another weapon from a different category. The Sykov is actually a pistol and a secondary on top. But this gun can cause tremendous damage and is currently better than a lot of the other SMGs.

The Sorokin 140mm Auto barrel can turn the pistol a fully automatic submachine gun. Combined with its 80 Rnd Magazine it even has more ammunition than a lot of the other weapons. With those two attachments you only need to focus on mobility. Equip the VLK Prizrak and the Tac Laser for a faster aim down sight. Of course you should use the Monolithic Suppressor as well.

You should use these attachments for the Sykov:

  • Muzzle: Monolithic Suppressor
  • Barrel: Sorokin 140mm Auto
  • Laser: Tac Laser
  • Ammunition: 80 Rnd Drum
  • Grip: VLK Prizrak
Milano 821

With the recent patches the Milano has risen a lot in terms of popularity. Even in this patch the Milano is a great SMG. This submachine gun is especially strong as a sniper support. For that use case you need a good mix between mobility and accuracy.

The Agency Suppressor and the Ranger barrel will provide you with the needed boost to your damage range and bullet velocity. Additionally you should use the Tiger Team Spotlight for mobility and any optic for more accuracy. Finally you should attach the 55 Rnd Magazine.

You should use these attachments for the Milano 821:

  • Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
  • Barrel: 10.5″ Ranger
  • Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Magazine: STANAG 55 Rnd Drum
  • Optic: Mikroflex LED
MAC-10

The MAC-10 is one of the best options again as well. It provides slightly more mobility than the MP5 from Modern Warfare. Like with the other SMGs you should use the Agency Suppressor and the Task Force barrel to boost your damage range and bullet velocity. The Tiger Team Spotlight and the Raider Stock will give you amazing mobility for fights in close proximity. The 53 Rnd Drum magazine will make sure that you have enough ammunition for your next gun fight.

You should use these attachments for the MAC-10:

  • Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
  • Barrel: 5.9″ Task Force
  • Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight
  • Magazine: 53 Rnd Drum
  • Stock: Raider Stock
