What seemed almost impossible just a couple weeks ago has become a reality. Schalke 04 has reached the LEC playoffs after a remarkable run during the final weeks, beating out Excel Esports for the final spot. Fnatic also managed to qualify thanks to G2 Esports beating Excel Esports in their final match.
After a pretty weak start to the season Schalke 04 looked like they would not stand a chance of reaching play-offs, sitting at a 1-10 record with only 7 more matches to go. Schalke 04 did the impossible and went on a 7-game winning streak, improving their record to 8-10 which was enough to secure themselves a spot in the LEC playoffs.

In their final match of the regular season Schalke 04 took on MAD Lions, who many predicted would end their run. That didn’t happen as Schalke 04 took control over the game and eventually won through solid performances by their mid laner Felix “Abbedagge” Braun and jungler Erberk “Gillius” Demir, who both stepped up in the past couple of weeks to make Schalke 04’s run possible.
The six teams that will compete in the LEC playoffs are Rogue (who had a great split), MAD Lions, G2 Esports, SK Gaming, Fnatic and Schalke 04. This also means the battle for a spot in League of Legends Worlds is on, as the final four teams will lock a spot in the tournament. The excitement in the LEC surely isn’t over yet, as Schalke 04 might reach even greater heights if they keep performing.
