Schalke 04 Esports sign Kirei as their starting jungler, Gilius benched

Schalke 04 Esports have announced that Thomas “Kirei” Yuen will be their starting jungler going into the Summer Split, while Gilius is benched.

Kirei has been active within the League of Legends scene for quite a while, playing for organizations such as Gamers2, Dignitas, Epsilon Esports, PSG and Misfits Gaming. After some time at GamersOrigin he’ll now be joining up with Schalke 04 Esports, where he’ll become the starting jungler for the organization as their jungler Erberk “Gilius” Demir is moved to the bench.

In a statement made to Twitter the managing director of Schalke 04, Tim Reichert, spoke about the decision. “We here at Schalke believe that with the environment we can provide to him (Kirei), he will pop off this Summer Split. We have a lot of confidence that with our coaching staff and such strong players next to him, he’ll be able to prove the potential he’s always shown in the past.

Reichert also gave insight into the decision to bench Gilius. “It feels terrible to put Gilius on the bench. He was a huge part of our Miracle run and we re-signed him also because of that. This split just didn’t work too well with this team, our performance was very shaky, so we felt like change was necessary.” Gilius remains under contract with the organization, however.
