Rumor: Is Valve locking steam accounts that are involved in CS:GO boosting?

In a recent Reddit post by user TarOfficial, it seems like Valve is disabling steam accounts that are used for boosting in CS:GO.

It’s no secret that Valve has been stepping up their account security and are targeting hackers within the CS:GO sphere a little more aggressively lately. However, now it seems they are taking their security measures a step further as they have allegedly been locking entire steam accounts that are suspected of boosting in CS:GO, as shown in the screenshot in the Reddit post.

In the Reddit post a user is requesting more information about a lost password after being unable to access their account. In their response, Valve explained their reasoning for locking the account. “Any account that is bought, sold, or traded may be permanently disabled for account sharing in addition to Skill Group boosting. The lock on this account is permanent and we cannot help you further with this.

It seems like Valve is targeting the market of boosted accounts, where players purchase an account from certain groups or websites. “Most often, accounts have their Skill Groups boosted through false matchmaking and are then sold or traded to other Steam users. The buying, selling or trading of Steam Accounts violates the Steam Subscriber Agreement and if you purchased or traded for this account we do not recommend doing this going forward.”
